Honours

Dear Members of the  DGGV,

In 2020, the German Geological Association - Geological Association (DGGV) will honour the following personalities: Prof. Dr. Theo Simon (Fichtenberg) Gustav-Steinmann-Medaille: Prof. Dr. Gerhard Bohrmann (Bremen) Eugen-Seibold-Medaille: Prof. Dr. Thorsten J. Nagel (Aarhus, Dänemark) Hans-Cloos-Preis: Dr. Laura Stutenbecker (Darmstadt) Rolf-und-Marlies-Teichmüller-Preis: Prof. Dr. Walter Riegel (Göttingen)
Honour membership: Dr. Werner Stackebrandt (Potsdam) Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. mult. Friedrich-Wilhelm Wellmer (Hannover).

Since this year's annual meeting of the DGGV, the GeoUtrecht 2020, was held not as a presence event but in digital form due to the Corona pandemic, the prizes and medals will be presented in person during the following annual meeting in Karlsruhe in 2021!

Outstanding merits in scientific research and in the communication of scientific knowledge is appreciated by DGGV through the following honours.

Leopold-von-Buch-Badge

The Leopold-von-Buch badge is awarded to geoscientists for outstanding merits in geosciences.

The Gustav-Steinmann medal is awarded to geoscientists for outstanding merits in geosciences.

The Serge-von-Bubnoff medal is awarded to persons with outstanding merits in the public representation of geosciences.

The Eugen-Seibold-Prize is awarded to geoscientists for outstanding merits in geosciences.

Hans-Stille-Medal

The Hans-Stille-Medal (donated 1948) was awarded by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Geowissenschaften for for outstanding merits in geosciences.

The Hans-Stille-Medal has no longer awarded since 2016.

The Hermann-Credner-Prize is awarded to outstanding junior scientists to support future research projects.

Hans-Cloos-Prize

DGGV awards the Hans Cloos Prize to young scientists who are generally under the age of 35 and have made significant contributions to the geosciences in the form of outstanding, independent and internationally published geoscientific research activities or outstanding contributions to our understanding of geoscientific processes.

Rolf und Marlies-Teichmüller-Prize

The Rolf und Marlies-Teichmüller-Prize is awarded to geoscientists for outstanding research in the field of coal petrology.

Abraham-Gottlob-Werner-Medal

The Abraham-Gottlob-Werner-Medaille and the Abraham-Gottlob-Werner-Honorary Needle were awarded  by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Geowissenschaften for outstanding achievements in geoscientific subdisciplines or for the DGG.

The honouring was  awarded for the last time in 2011.

Bis 1989 wurden von der GGW Gesellschaft für Geowissenschaften, ein Friedrich-Stammberger-Preis für Geologie (Liste der Preisträger). Seitdem wurde der Preis nicht mehr vergeben.
