University Bremen – Faculty of Geosciences
At the Faculty of Geosciences together with MARUM currently five working groups have their focus in sedimentary geology: Sedimentology and Paleoceanography (Heinrich), Geochronology and Basin Analysis (Kuss), Modelling of Sedimentation Processes (Huhn-Frehers), Marine Sedimentology (Hebbeln) and and Sediment Geochemistry (Zabel).
Currently the following research topics are covered in Bremen
- Characterisation and temporal evolution of modern and Quaternary shelf and deep sea depositional systems
- Ocean and Climate: carbonate production/dissolution; coccolithophorid fluxes/ecology/morphometric features
- Submarine mass movements, canyon systems and contourites
- Facies analysis of Alpine Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous strata
- Facies analysis and sequence stratigraphy of Paleozoic and Mesozoic carbonate platforms
- Interpretation of depositional processes on micro- to basin scale
- Reservoir characterisation (carbonates)
- Porosity/Permeability studies of carbonate rocks
Analytical equipment in the field of sedimentary geology
- REM
- Sedigraph / Atterberg / laser granulometer
- Leco (TOC, CaCO3)
- Radiographies / Nuclear Tomography
- Mass spectrometry
- XFR Analyzer
