TU Braunschweig – Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication
The Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication has its focus in sedimentary geobiology.
Currently the following research topics are covered in Braunschweig
- Continental and estuarine sediments
- Climate and environmental variability
- Human impact on aquatic ecosystems
- Bioindication
Analytical equipment in the field of sedimentary geobiology
- Sampling aquatic environments: two rubber boats of different size (for example Honda T-35 AE with motor), two Uwitec corer (sediment-short core-sampler), two sediment grabs (Ekman grab), WTW multi-parameter probes, portable photometer (Winlap Dataline)
- Sampling terrestrial environments: Wacker hammer and driving rods, Pürckhauer, rods and soft-head hammer
- Laboratory for microscopic analysis: research microscope Leica DM 5000 B, high-performance light optical microscope Zeiss Imager M2 with reflected-light function and AxioCam HRC camera, 6 high-resolution binocular microscopes (Leica) with two integrated computer-aided high-performance cameras (CT 5 ProgRes from Jenoptic), stereo macroscope Askania MZM1 combined with the camera Jenoptik CT5
- Water- and sediment laboratory: drying oven, muffle furnace, centrifuge and water bath
Regional focus of sedimentary geobiological research North, Central and South America (USA, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chile), Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Tibetan Plateau (China), Vietnam, Madagascar, Saudi Arabia, Germany
